Nearly 90-year-old Tibetan spiritual leader the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, stated a few days ago that he will reincarnate after his passing, in order to quell speculation surrounding the reincarnation system. On the 5th, he further expressed hope that he will live to be over 130 years old.
According to Reuters, the Dalai Lama, born on July 6, 1935, is celebrating his 90th birthday. Hundreds of followers from around the world gathered in Dharamshala, a mountain town in northern India, praying for the Dalai Lama's longevity. The Dalai Lama told his followers: "I still hope to live beyond 130 years old."
The Dalai Lama also told Reuters last December that he might live to be 110 years old.
The Dalai Lama told his followers: "We have lost our country and are in exile in India, but I am still able to benefit sentient beings. So, while living in Dharamshala, I intend to do my best to serve all people and promote the Dharma."
Beijing views the Dalai Lama as a separatist and insists that his successor must receive approval from the Chinese government.
The Dalai Lama previously stated that he will reincarnate in the "free world." In a video released on the 2nd, he confirmed that the Dalai Lama reincarnation system will continue, and that the "Dalai Lama Gaden Phodrang Foundation" is the only institution authorized to search for and authenticate the reincarnated child.
