Li Bingbing and Her Sister in a Three-Month Cold War: 'In the Next Life, We Absolutely Won’t Work Together'

Chinese actress Li Bingbing recently gave an interview in which she spoke candidly about the long journey of working with her younger sister and manager, Li Xue. She made a startling remark: “If there is a next life, I absolutely don’t want to work together again,” saying that sisters should remain just sisters. Although this statement sounded rather resolute, she also frankly admitted that after over 20 years of working hand in hand, their bond is actually very deep, and behind her words is more of an emotional reflection on family and work.

Li Bingbing revealed that the two sisters have, in the past, had intense arguments due to differences in work philosophy. At its worst, they even deleted each other from communication apps, and for more than three months, barely kept in touch. Outsiders believe that when family members work together, emotions are often more complicated than those among regular partners; even though they may have each other's best interests at heart, conflicts can easily arise due to differing viewpoints. Even when living under the same roof, during their cold war they had almost zero interaction, relying only on the work team to communicate.

It’s understood that Li Xue is decisive and rational when it comes to work, always hoping to make the best plans for her sister. Behind signature films like “The Message” and “The Knot,” Li Xue played an instrumental role. However, as the elder sister, Li Bingbing sometimes finds it hard to see Li Xue as just her manager. When pressures from work build up, emotional conflict is even more likely, as the dual identity of “family and business partner” becomes the hardest balance to strike.

Despite all this, Li Bingbing is deeply touched by her sister, who has focused almost her entire life on supporting her, accompanying her through thick and thin from a young age and sacrificing much of her own private life and time. She expressed with feeling that, though she says she wouldn’t work together in another life, she is still grateful for her sister’s company in this life, and both have already become irreplaceably important in each other’s lives.
