Yuan Wei-ren Becomes Vegetative State for 5 Years After Stroke, Ex-Wife Sympathizes with Daughter Being Mocked for Father's Absence

56-year-old Taiwanese musician Yuan Wei-ren, who has composed songs for various superstars including Faye Wong, Na Ying, and A-mei Zhang, is known as the "queen maker." In 2018, he suffered a stroke in Shanghai, which led to cerebral hemorrhage. After surgery, he returned to Taitung for recuperation, and his condition initially improved. However, in 2020, he fell at home again and has since been in a vegetative state. According to Taiwanese media, Yuan Wei-ren was known for having multiple extramarital affairs before his incident and divorced his wife Lu Yuanqi in 2016. After his incident, several lovers left him. Recently, for his daughter's 20th birthday, his ex-wife Lu Yuanqi posted that his condition has not improved.
Yuan Wei-ren was discovered by his then-girlfriend when he collapsed from the stroke. However, it’s reported that the girlfriend broke up with him after the incident. Ex-wife Lu Yuanqi, on the other hand, has shown loyalty by visiting him multiple times. Yuan Wei-ren and Lu Yuanqi have a pair of children together. Recently, to celebrate their daughter Yuan Rong’s 20th birthday, Lu Yuanqi wrote a long post on social media saying: "From a little princess in her father's arms to being mocked as a poor child without a father, we have experienced many things together." She feels sorry for the harm her daughter has suffered growing up, while also being grateful that her daughter is more understanding than her peers.

Lu Yuanqi also mentioned discussing her wedding with her daughter: "We talked about the day your grandpa handed my hand over to your dad at our wedding. You laughed and said, 'Ha ha, on my wedding day, dad probably still won’t be able to hold my hand...' (Although laughing, it was full of regret)." Her words reveal that Yuan Wei-ren's condition remains unimproved. Lu Yuanqi then comforted her daughter: "You have a great brother! He will hold your hand, and as he holds it, he might just push you away saying, 'Hurry up and take her away.'"
