Recently, as flood conditions in Guigang, Guangxi eased and the waters receded, soldiers participating in flood control and disaster relief began to withdraw. Among them, the experience of Wu Jie, a soldier from a brigade of the Army, has sparked heated discussions.
On July 7th, due to the impact of Typhoon "Maysak," severe flooding occurred at Guigang Senior High School, trapping nearly 4,000 teachers and students. Upon learning of the situation, a brigade from the Southern Theater Command Army rushed to the rescue, with Wu Jie and his comrades being the first to drive assault boats into the flooded campus.
In the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, 12-year-old Wu Jie was trapped under debris and was successfully rescued by the People’s Liberation Army. Since then, that camouflage uniform has become a beacon in his life.
Now, in 2026 in Guigang, Guangxi, dressed in his military uniform, he followed his unit on an emergency rescue mission and fought on the frontlines of flood control and disaster relief, because he now more deeply understands the weight of protecting others in times of danger.
On his way to the disaster area, Wu Jie said: “No matter how dangerous the road ahead may be, I must be the first to appear where the people need me most!”
This is a mutual protection that transcends time, and even more so, it is the eternal inheritance of the People's Soldiers' original aspiration. The hope that Wu Jie once received is now warming and protecting thousands of people.
