51-year-old former Miss Hong Kong Wu Wenxin (now known as Wu Xinxin) had a recurrence of breast cancer the year before last, and revealed in March last year that the cancer had progressed to stage 4. However, she has always maintained an optimistic attitude in fighting cancer. Recently, she posted her thoughts, mentioning the 'Mr. Chen fundraising controversy' that has sparked heated discussion. She revealed that in the past two years, she had been swindled out of her lifetime savings. Faced with the pressure of treatment costs and living expenses, someone had suggested to help her raise funds, but she immediately turned down the offer.
Wu Wenxin mentioned that a senior media friend went to visit her and knew about how she had been scammed out of her money in the past. In order to help her, he suggested fundraising for her and believed that raising NT$1 to 2 million (about MYR 122,000–245,000) would be very easy. But she politely declined on the spot. She said that from childhood to adulthood, no matter what she encountered, she always handled and took responsibility for it herself. 'Asking others for money is really not my style, and I don't think I've reached that point yet.'
Wu Wenxin also emphasized that she never intended to win sympathy, and that her public sharing was only prompted by the private fundraising controversy. 'I just want to use my own experience to tell people who are now in a slump or suffering from illness, please don't give up. Every challenge can be overcome. To survive, you must rely on your own will. You are not alone! I wish all patients the best—keep fighting and get through this tough time!'
