Former Prime Minister Dato Seri Najib pointed out that if he was truly involved in misappropriating 2.3 billion ringgit from 1MDB, he would logically suppress this evidence from surfacing rather than request it to be presented in court, unless he's crazy!
During his defense in court on the 1MDB case yesterday, Najib, in response to his lawyer Wong Aizman's additional question, said that the representing lawyer sent a letter on March 14, 2021, to the Southern and Eastern District Courts of New York, emphasizing that the documents presented by former Goldman Sachs banker Roger Ng contained evidence beneficial to his defense.
He said that similarly, another former Goldman Sachs banker, Tim Leissner, revealed during Roger Ng's court hearing that his testimony not only contained evidence supporting his defense but also explained their roles in the multi-billion dollar 1MDB scandal in detail.
Thus, Najib seeks to obtain the relevant testimonies and documents and requests Leissner to provide evidence involving himself, fugitive businessman Jho Low, and other participants.
He continued by saying that logically speaking, if he was indeed part of the scheme, he would be suppressing the evidence from being presented to the court, not requesting for it.
“If I was involved in the 1MDB fraud case, then requesting this evidence from the court would be an insane act, as it would implicate me. Doing so would mean I'm crazy.”
“Because I am innocent, I want to present this evidence to the court, and once I do, I am confident of being found not guilty.”
In addition to Roger Ng being sentenced to 10 years by a US court last year for corruption, his accomplice Leissner also admitted to bribery and money laundering for 1MDB transactions, and he is currently awaiting sentencing.
