The Princess Diaries 3: Queen Absent as Julie Andrews Announces Retirement

Disney’s classic film The Princess Diaries has been confirmed for a third installment, but the audience’s much-anticipated “Queen” might not be making a return. The 90-year-old Oscar-winning actress Julie Andrews recently confirmed in a magazine interview that she has declined to appear in The Princess Diaries 3 and candidly admitted that she has retired, hoping to leave the stage to a new generation.

In the film, Julie plays Queen Clarisse Renaldi of the Kingdom of Genovia, forming a classic grandmother-granddaughter duo with Anne Hathaway’s Princess Mia, beloved by fans around the world. However, she revealed that the production team had invited her several times last year to return, but she ultimately decided to refuse.

She said: “I suppose I would say that I am retired, that’s the most appropriate way to put it. They kept asking me last year if I was willing to come back. It was really hard to say ‘no,’ but I still declined. I’ve already had a wonderful journey, and I believe the film will do very well without me—the grandmother—joining at my age.”#
