Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo arrived at Beijing Capital International Airport in the early hours of Sunday (January 25), commencing a four-day official visit to China.

According to CCTV News, during the visit, Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet with Orpo. Premier Li Qiang and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Zhao Leji will also hold talks and meetings with him respectively, to have in-depth exchanges of views on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest.

Finland was one of the earliest Western countries to recognize and establish diplomatic relations with China, and was also the first to sign an intergovernmental trade agreement with China. In recent years, the new type of forward-looking cooperative partnership between the two countries has continued to deepen, and practical cooperation in various fields has continued to advance. In 2025, the bilateral trade volume between China and Finland exceeded 8 billion US dollars (32.044 billion ringgits), and the two-way investment stock surpassed 23 billion US dollars.

According to a spokesperson from China’s Ministry of Commerce, during the visit, the Ministry will sign a memorandum of understanding with Finland to strengthen the work of the China-Finland Innovation Enterprise Cooperation Committee, and enterprises from both sides will also sign a number of business cooperation agreements.

It is understood that Orpo will be accompanied by executives from more than 20 companies on this visit, covering Finland’s leading sectors such as machinery, forest industry, innovation, clean energy, and food.

The spokesperson of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously said, when talking about Orpo's visit to China, that Beijing highly values the development of China-Finland relations and is willing to work closely with Helsinki to strengthen high-level exchanges, consolidate political mutual trust, enhance economic and trade cooperation, promote people-to-people exchanges, increase understanding and collaboration in multilateral affairs, and jointly push bilateral relations to a new level.
