The police have today applied for an extension of detention for Malaysian singer Namewee to assist in the investigation of the murder case of Taiwanese internet celebrity Hsieh Youxin.
Jinma District Police Chief, Superintendent Sulizmi Afendi, pointed out that the police will submit an application for extended detention this morning at the Jinma District Police Headquarters.
Namewee earlier confirmed on social media that he had turned himself in at the police station and stated that he would fully cooperate with the police investigation.
In addition, according to The Malay Mail, Namewee’s lawyer Joshua Tay stated in an interview that his client arrived at the Jinma District police station at 1:10 a.m. today to make a report and assist the police in the investigation.
He revealed that he accompanied Namewee throughout the relevant procedures and confirmed that the police would apply for an extension of detention order in court today. He will also represent Namewee at the detention extension hearing.
Namewee had earlier posted on Instagram, revealing that he specifically traveled from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur and went to the police station for questioning at the scheduled time set by the police.
This 42-year-old singer was reportedly suspected of hiding for a period of time after the Hsieh Youxin case was reclassified as a murder case by the police under Section 302 of the Penal Code (Murder).
Kuala Lumpur police have listed Namewee as a “key person of interest” in the investigation of this murder case.
