(Miri, 6th) Miri Member of Parliament Chiew Choon Man visited the Miri Inland Revenue Board (IRB) today to learn about the details of the Sara Basic Assistance Fund (SARA). This program further demonstrates the government's commitment to alleviating the burden on the people, especially for low-income and extremely impoverished groups.
He stated that the Sara Basic Assistance Fund is a targeted assistance method, wherein increased national revenue and part of the savings from subsidy expenditures are redistributed to those who genuinely need it. Starting in 2025, the Sara Basic Assistance Fund will be distributed through MyKad to ensure that beneficiaries can access essential goods (including food from supermarkets and registered grocery stores).
This plan is an additional payment to Rahmah Cash Aid (STR) beneficiaries. According to the data of STR 2025 beneficiaries classified under poverty and extreme poverty (eKasih) categories, beneficiaries will automatically qualify as of October 31, 2024. Furthermore, the eligibility for the Sara Basic Assistance Fund has been extended to all STR 2025 beneficiaries who have been qualified under the household and single elderly qualification criteria, and this aid will automatically be available in their MyKad.
