Miri City 20th Anniversary Run Now Open for Registration

(Miri, 6th) In conjunction with the May Festival, Miri City Council and Oil Town Hash House Harriers Club will be organizing the 2025 Miri City 20th Anniversary Run on May 18th (Sunday) at 6:30 am, at the parking lot of the Miri City Council building.

Miri Mayor YB Adam Yii stated at the press conference that this event is part of the 20th Anniversary of Miri City and the 2025 Miri May Festival celebrations, and aims to commemorate the extraordinary progress and journey of unity since the city was elevated to its current status.

He mentioned that Miri officially became a city on May 20, 2005, marking a historic milestone as it transformed from an ordinary oil town into a vibrant modern city. Over the past twenty years, Miri has developed into a vibrant center for tourism, business, education, and culture, solidifying its status as the second-largest city in Sarawak. The 20th Anniversary City Day Run is not merely a sports event but a celebration of the resilience, progress, and community spirit of our city.

He emphasized that the goal of the Miri City Day Run is to promote healthy living and encourage Mirians to adopt an active lifestyle through fun and engaging sports events, fostering community unity and bringing people from all walks of life together to celebrate Miri's rich diversity and harmonious society.

“The event showcases Miri's new developments and the running route will highlight the latest developments in the Central Business District, symbolizing Miri's journey of growth, and enhancing tourism and economic activities. The event is expected to attract local and international participants, boosting local business and tourism.”

Adam Yii  encouraged all Mirians, sports enthusiasts, and visitors to participate in this meaningful running event and join us in celebrating 20 years of achievements in Miri. Whether you are an avid runner or just looking to enjoy a morning full of fun and fitness, this event is suitable for everyone. Let us work together to make this 20th Anniversary City Day Run a memorable and successful celebration of Miri's progress, unity, and community spirit.

It is reported that the 2025 Miri City Day Run will be divided into three categories: Men's 5km Open, Women's 5km Open, and Fun Run. The first 300 registrants can enjoy an early bird registration fee of 40 MYR, followed by a registration fee of 50 MYR per person.

The Men's 5km Open and Women's 5km Open will have cash prizes, with the first place receiving 300 MYR, second place 200 MYR, third place 150 MYR, fourth place 100 MYR, and fifth place 80 MYR.

Online registration for the event via the Jom Run App is now open, with the deadline set for April 15, 2025.
