BINTULU,7 August: A total of 61 dengue fever cases have been recorded in the district, with three outbreaks identified in Kampung Baru, Kampung Sinong, and the Bintulu Old Market area.
Out of this number, Kampung Baru recorded the highest number of cases with 52, followed by Kampung Sinong (seven cases) and Bintulu Old Market (two cases).
Bintulu Division Health Officer, Dr Melvin Chung Hsien Liang, said the outbreak in Kampung Baru involved several key localities, namely Kampung Baru Tengah, Kampung Baru Laut, and Kampung Baru Darat.
"The Bintulu Divisional Health Office would like to emphasize that eliminating Aedes mosquito breeding grounds is a shared responsibility," he said in a statement yesterday.
He advised residents to properly dispose of all used containers that can collect water, such as empty cans, old tires, plastic containers, and polystyrene.
"For containers that cannot be covered, such as flower pots, pot trays, water storage jars, buckets, refrigerator trays, dish rack mats, pet food containers, flower vases, and water filters, ensure the water is changed and the containers are cleaned at least once a week," he said.
According to him, bushes around houses should also be cleared as they can potentially become mosquito breeding grounds.
"Use aerosol sprays and mosquito coils indoors, especially during early morning and dusk when Aedes mosquitoes are most active," he added.
He said individuals experiencing symptoms such as high fever, headache, pain behind the eyes, joint pain, or rashes should seek immediate treatment at a nearby clinic or hospital.
