The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority issued a statement on the evening of the 7th, saying that a cargo plane lost contact while flying from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates to Karachi, a southern port city in Pakistan, with 5 crew members on board.
The statement pointed out that the Boeing 737 cargo plane, operated by K2 Airlines, reported a navigation system failure at 9:18 pm local time on the 7th, and then received guidance from the Karachi Area Control Center. A few minutes later, radar detected that the plane was rapidly descending and abruptly changing course. It lost radar and radio contact about 155 nautical miles west of Karachi over the sea.
The statement said that multiple departments are working together to carry out a maritime search and rescue operation for the missing cargo plane.
According to the global real-time flight tracking website Flightradar24.com, preliminary data transmitted by the aircraft showed that the plane first descended in altitude, then climbed, followed by a second sudden and steep descent.
