Benz Hui Turns to Light Smoke, Friends Cry in Tears

Veteran Hong Kong actor "Benz Hui" (Hui Siu Hung) peacefully passed away in hospital on October 28 at the age of 76 after losing his battle with cancer. The wake was held at Po Fook Memorial Hall in Tai Wai, Hong Kong on the 17th, with the funeral and burial services following on the morning of the 18th. Hui Siu Hung's family and close friends attended the memorial over the two days to bid a final farewell.

Early in the morning of the 18th, around 8:30am, Hui Siu Hung's widow, Lung Yin Yi, and daughter, Hui Wai Ching, arrived at Po Fook Memorial Hall to make arrangements for the funeral. Hui's close friends George Lam, Samantha Ko, and Louis Yuen also arrived early, showing much heart.

Samantha Ko and Hui Siu Hung developed a close bond through working together, often playing father and daughter in various series and addressing each other as such in private as well. Their on-screen relationship had truly extended into real life, forming a strong emotional connection. On the evening of the 17th, Samantha Ko posted three black-and-white stills from “The Queen of News 2” featuring her attending “George's” funeral, without further explanation, expressing her sorrow and longing simply with a black heart emoji. This family-like affection beyond blood ties touched many netizens.

Hui's goddaughter, Charmaine Sheh (Ah Sheh), arrived at the memorial at about 10:35am with Leanne Li, both wearing sunglasses, with Ah Sheh visibly haggard. Many other industry friends, such as Evergreen Mak, Bobby Au-Yeung, Michael Miu and his wife Jaime Chik, Raymond Wong, Eddie Kwan, Sharon Chan, Law Lok Lam, Kong Hon, Paw Hee Ching, and Nancy Sit also came to pay their respects. By noon, Hui's coffin was transferred from the memorial to Fu Shan Crematorium. Ah Sheh, realizing they would now be separated forever, broke down in tears, deeply moving those around her.
