With the advent of the internet era, numerous fake news stories have proliferated in our daily lives. Recently, multiple cases of international celebrities being "falsely rumored dead" have emerged online, with many of these rumors stemming from AI-generated images. The latest victim is none other than international martial arts superstar Jackie Chan.
Earlier this month, a Facebook fan page with over 1.5 million followers suddenly posted that Jackie Chan had unfortunately passed away at the beginning of the month, claiming his long years of filming had resulted in injuries that led to complications. The post also included a black-and-white photo of Jackie Chan lying on a hospital bed, forcing a weak smile. Since Jackie Chan's last update on Weibo was on November 11th—when he was promoting his new film, "Family Plan," and wrote: “Our whole family, January 1, 2026, invites you to join us for ‘Family Plan.’”—and there were no posts afterwards, many fans took the news as real, leaving messages of mourning in the comments, lamenting that the film industry had lost another martial arts legend.
However, some netizens immediately started fact-checking and discovered that the so-called "memorial photo" was in fact an AI-generated fake, and the entire post was completely fabricated. Jackie Chan himself is currently safe and well.
