PUTRAJAYA, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is partnering with local animation company Monsta Studios to produce an animated series aimed at delivering road safety messages in a more creative and effective way.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the initiative would primarily target children, with the aim of instilling road safety awareness from an early age.
“Our main target is children, so that road safety awareness can be instilled from their school years and strengthened as they grow into adulthood,” he told reporters after the Transport Ministry’s monthly assembly and National Month celebration today.
Loke said educating children about road safety could also influence their parents’ behaviour behind the wheel.
“When children themselves advise or remind their parents about road offences, we hope this can encourage parents to be more careful when driving with their children,” he said.
Loke said younger generations were increasingly engaged with digital content, animation, social media and creative storytelling, making it important to communicate road safety messages through formats that were accessible, engaging and memorable.
He said the collaboration combined JPJ’s expertise in road safety and regulations with Monsta Studios’ strengths in animation, creative content and digital communication.
“The partnership aims to ensure road safety messages are understood, embraced and ultimately put into practice by the public,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Loke said the ministry, through JPJ, was integrating an online driver health screening system to improve the transparency of medical reports.
Under the new system, medical examination results will be entered directly into a platform integrated with MySikap before a driver’s licence is renewed.
Loke said JPJ was also working with the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) and the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) to identify panel clinics that would use the online system.
In another development, Loke said improvements to airport screening standard operating procedures (SOP) would be presented to the Cabinet next week.
He said the scope and procedures governing the use of screening machines would also be reviewed to improve the equipment and screening process.
“The Home Ministry is drawing up improvements to screening procedures and related matters, which will be presented to the Cabinet next week,” he said.
“We will also review the scope and SOPs for our screening machines to ensure the necessary improvements are made,” he added.
