BINTULU: Kampung Nyalau will be developed into a new township under Sarawak’s wider Bintulu growth corridor strategy, forming part of a structured expansion plan linking Jepak, Tatau and Samalaju.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the area will be transformed through a master plan approach that integrates residential, commercial and support infrastructure without displacing existing communities.

He said the development is designed to ensure continuity of local villages while positioning the area as a key suburban settlement supporting industrial expansion in Samalaju.

“They will be provided with facilities, and it will become a social support system for investors coming to Samalaju,” he said when officiating the Sarawakku Sayang programme at the Bintulu Old Airport here today (May 23).

“This means Bintulu will become a suburban settlement point,” he added.

Abang Johari said Kampung Nyalau will be developed as a mixed-use township featuring affordable housing, commercial centres, offices and essential services to support both residents and surrounding industrial activities.

“It is a mix between affordable housing areas and commercial areas. We will also have offices and support services for the Bintulu area. This is a new township,” he said.

He stressed that the development will be guided by a structured master plan that takes into account the existence of three villages in the area, ensuring that existing communities are preserved while benefiting from new economic opportunities.

The Premier said Kampung Nyalau is part of a wider regional planning framework that includes the Jepak expansion zone extending towards Tatau and the Samalaju industrial corridor.

This integrated approach, he said, is intended to support long-term industrial growth by providing housing, services and social infrastructure for both local residents and the incoming workforce.

He added that the expansion is not merely a housing project, but part of a broader strategy to strengthen Bintulu as a fully integrated industrial and suburban development hub.
