Beating 'Avengers: Endgame' to Become North America's Opening Weekend King, 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' Sweeps 3.8 Billion Globally

Marvel blockbuster 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day', starring Tom Holland, has set a new North American box office opening record, according to newly released official figures. The movie grossed $360 million (approx. RM1.47 billion), surpassing the previous champion 'Avengers: Endgame', which held the record at $357 million (approx. RM1.46 billion). Together with Christopher Nolan’s new film 'The Odyssey', these movies have sparked a cinema-going frenzy, driving North American box office revenue to a historic single-weekend high. All films combined took in about $430 million (approx. RM1.76 billion), exceeding the $402 million (approx. RM1.64 billion) benchmark set during 'Endgame’s' release.

'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' far exceeded market expectations, raking in $360 million across 4,487 theaters in North America. Its global first-week total reached $932 million (approx. RM3.81 billion), making it the second-highest global opening in history, just behind 'Endgame', and only a step away from the $1 billion (approx. RM4.09 billion) milestone. Even more impressive, 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' did not screen in IMAX, since all IMAX screens across the US were booked for 'The Odyssey' for three weeks straight. Nevertheless, 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' dominated Dolby, 4DX, and ScreenX premium formats, breaking opening-weekend records across the board.

Despite the overwhelming buzz surrounding 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day', 'The Odyssey' was not squeezed out of the market and, in its third week, still earned $51 million (approx. RM200 million) in North America. The film’s global box office has now exceeded $911 million (approx. RM3.73 billion), and it too is poised to break the $1 billion mark soon.#
