Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Amin Jani pointed out that in the six months before and after the implementation of the diesel fluctuation policy, RON95 smuggling cases increased by 90 incidents.
He said that in the six months before the implementation of the diesel fluctuation, authorities opened investigations into 469 cases of RON95 gasoline smuggling, confiscating a total value of 447,237.47 Malaysian Ringgit.
He added that in the six months after implementing the diesel fluctuation, the number of cases investigated by the authorities rose to 559, with confiscated values totaling 565,507.58 Malaysian Ringgit.
Amin Jani stated this on Thursday (February 6) in Parliament in a written response to a question posed by Pas's Parit Buntar Member of Parliament, Misbahul.
He expressed that gasoline smuggling is influenced by multiple factors, including economic factors, geographical border environments, and cross-agency cooperation.
Therefore, he believes that effectively curbing the problem of subsidized diesel smuggling requires continuous cooperation between government departments and various sectors of society to minimize these illegal activities to the greatest extent possible.
