(Kuching, 1st) A 35-year-old local man was arrested by police at around 1:30 pm on Saturday (January 31) in the Taman Berjaya Penition Road area at Mile 4½ in Kuching, after he attempted to evade police pursuit and collided with several vehicles on a flyover.
Kuching Police Chief Alexson stated in a press release that the chase took place in the area from Kuching to Serian Road, heading towards Kuching city center.
He pointed out that the suspect was driving a white Perodua Viva, and was tracked down after investigations into a house burglary that occurred on Laksamana Cheng Ho Street on January 30, as well as multiple motorcycle thefts in Kuching.
“The suspect refused to cooperate during the escape and acted aggressively.
During the incident, a police officer sustained multiple injuries while attempting to apprehend the suspect.”
Alexson added that a urine screening test showed the suspect was positive for drug use, and further investigation found that he had as many as 20 previous criminal records.
The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code.
