The New York District Attorney’s office stated that Chinese-American doctor Zhi Cheng (transliteration) is suspected of sexually assaulting multiple women who lost consciousness after being administered drugs, both at his hospital and at his home. On the 30th, he admitted to multiple sex crimes.
The Queens District Attorney’s office in New York stated that Cheng admitted to sexually assaulting seven women, three of whom were female patients at the NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital where he worked.
The 35-year-old Cheng was arrested in 2022 after a female acquaintance discovered a video showing him sexually assaulting her while she was unconscious at his home.
Prosecutors said that a search of Cheng’s residence and related equipment uncovered video evidence of him sexually assaulting women at both his home and workplace. Prosecutors also found liquid anesthetics.
Cheng is still in custody and has been prohibited from practicing medicine. Prosecutors stated that Cheng faces up to 24 years in prison.
Prosecutors said that most of the victims had been injected with sedatives and had no memory of the sexual assaults. However, one woman woke up during the assault after being anesthetized for a gastrointestinal surgery.
According to the District Attorney, supervisors at the NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital cooperated with the criminal investigation.
