Lai Ching-te’s First Asset Declaration as President Shows Savings Up by 1.31 Million

Taiwan's authorities have released President Lai Ching-te’s first asset declaration since taking office, showing his savings have increased by 9.09 million New Taiwan Dollars (1.3135 million Ringgit).

According to reports from Newtalk News Network and ETtoday News Cloud, Taiwan's Control Yuan on the 1st published President Lai Ching-te’s first asset declaration after taking office, showing his savings amounted to NT$11,254,024 (1.6262 million Ringgit), an increase of NT$9.09 million compared to last year’s declared savings of NT$2,155,223 (311,400 Ringgit).

The Control Yuan on Tuesday reinstated the online inquiry for asset declarations. Regarding real estate, on March 24, 2021, Lai Ching-te acquired a piece of land in Ping’an District, Tainan, valued at NT$24.42 million, and a building valued at NT$8.38 million (1.2109 million Ringgit). In addition, he has a mortgage of NT$12,460,395 (1.8005 million Ringgit), about NT$1.4 million (202,300 Ringgit) less than declared last year, and still owns a Toyota car.

Lai Ching-te declared securities valued at NT$11,862,008 (1.714 million Ringgit), all used to purchase U.S. Treasury bonds, registered under his wife Wu Mei-ru’s name. According to Lai Ching-te's 2023 presidential election asset declaration, no securities were reported at that time.
