Food delivery thief on the loose! A man, too lazy to cook for himself, prowled around restaurant clusters specifically to steal food from delivery bags that were not locked. But after many attempts, he finally got caught; one day, while eating the fried chicken he'd just stolen, the police showed up to arrest him at his home, where officers also found multiple food containers with leftover traces of meals.

According to Jimu News, a series of food delivery thefts recently occurred in Pulandian District, Dalian City, Liaoning Province, China. Several food delivery riders had their meals stolen off their motorcycles while briefly leaving them unattended to pick up new orders. As a result, these riders not only had to compensate for the losses out of their own pockets, but also faced customer complaints due to delivery delays, causing them to lose a whole day’s income.

According to a report from the Pulandian Public Security Bureau, the Fengrong Police Station recently received several complaints from delivery riders. Reviewing surveillance footage around the restaurant business district, police found a suspicious-looking man who regularly lingered in the area and specifically targeted unlocked delivery bags for theft.

Following a special investigation task force, police identified and arrested the 31-year-old suspect, Jiang, on October 9. When law enforcement arrived, Jiang was just about to eat the recently-stolen fried chicken. Officers also found many food containers with meal remnants at his home, confirming his involvement in several recent theft cases.

During the investigation, Jiang confessed that he didn’t want to cook for himself. Upon seeing that food delivery vehicles were often left unattended, he had the idea to steal ready-made meals, stealing barbecue, hotpot skewers, fried chicken, hamburgers, and various other takeout dishes. Jiang initially thought this was just a minor offense, but didn’t realize that repeated crimes had already constituted a violation of criminal law.

Currently, Jiang has been placed under criminal coercive measures by the public security authorities, and the case is still under further investigation.
