A 17-year-old female secondary school student in Singapore had her mobile phone confiscated after arriving late to class. When she later tried to retrieve the phone and was refused, she used a box cutter to injure the school's operations manager and the discipline head on their arms.
According to Shin Min Daily News’ report on the 24th, the incident happened on April 28 last year at a secondary school in Singapore. At the time of the incident, the accused was a student and now faces two charges of intentionally using a weapon to hurt others. The accused pleaded guilty on Friday (23rd) and sentencing is adjourned to March 4.
Case details indicate that the accused arrived late to school that day, only entering the campus at 7:45 am. Her mobile phone was therefore confiscated by the school’s operations manager as a disciplinary action.
At around 12:20 pm during lunch break, the accused went to the operations manager to ask for the phone back but was refused. She appeared impatient and suddenly produced a box cutter, first slashing her own arm before then cutting the operations manager’s left arm.
After being injured, the operations manager instructed the accused to sit outside the administration office and reported the incident to the discipline head. The discipline head tried to persuade the accused to hand over the box cutter, but the accused was emotionally agitated and refused.
While the discipline head was calling a colleague for assistance, the accused took the opportunity to use the box cutter to injure the discipline head’s left arm.
Arrested at Home on the Same Day
After the assaults, upon learning that the school had called the police, the accused decided to go home and was arrested there later that day.
A school staff member eventually managed to wrest the box cutter away from the accused. After learning the school had contacted the police, the accused decided to return home.
The police subsequently went to the accused's home and arrested her.
The injured operations manager and discipline head later sought medical treatment. The discipline head was sent to hospital. According to medical reports, there was a relatively deep cut on the discipline head’s left arm.
