A Chinese citizen in the border area between Nepal and India was detained by the Indian border forces after accidentally entering Indian territory. The Chinese Consulate in the area has reminded travelers that entry into India requires a visa.

According to Southern Metropolis Daily, the Chinese Consulate General in Kolkata reported this information on Saturday (May 9).

The Consulate reiterates that Chinese citizens must obtain an Indian visa in advance to enter India. The Nepal-India border is an open border, with few boundary markers. It is very easy for Chinese citizens in Nepal to accidentally cross into Indian territory when traveling to the Nepal-India border area. Without a valid Indian visa, the risk of being detained by the Indian border forces or police is extremely high.

In addition, India severely punishes illegal entrants. Regardless of whether it was intentional or accidental, once discovered, they will be detained and handed over to the courts, facing two to eight years of imprisonment and fines, and it is difficult to obtain bail.

The Consulate reminds Chinese citizens in Nepal to attach great importance to this, not to go to areas near the India-Nepal border, not to take chances or blindly trust local guides, so as to avoid unnecessary serious consequences and personal losses.
In addition, Chinese citizens holding a valid Indian visa, after entering India, may not travel to restricted areas for foreigners without written official permission from Indian authorities. The Consulate states that Chinese citizens must leave India within the validity period of their visa and may not overstay; otherwise, they will bear all legal consequences themselves.
