KOTA SAMARAHAN: A 59-year-old local man lost RM120,233 after falling victim to a non-existent part-time job scam.

Acting Kota Samarahan police chief, DSP Barry William said the report was lodged on Friday (Apr 24).

He said the victim came across a part-time job advertisement on Facebook and clicked on a link provided before being directed to communicate via WhatsApp.

“The victim was then introduced to a website and given tasks with the promise of attractive commissions. He subsequently made 16 transactions into 12 different bank accounts as instructed,” he said in a statement.

Barry said the victim later realised he had been scammed after failing to receive the promised returns.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

Police advised the public not to be easily deceived by online job offers promising high returns and to verify suspicious accounts through the Semak Mule portal.

Those who suspect they have been scammed are urged to contact the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) hotline at 997 immediately.
