(Kuching, 3rd) Abang Johari stated that the Sarawak government is planning to develop an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Data Park in Kuching, modeling its construction after the K2 Strategic Data Center Park in Dublin, Ireland.
He pointed out that this AI Data Park will serve as the catalyst project for an AI grid, aiming to spur investment and strengthen Sarawak's AI data center ecosystem.
During a working visit to the Dublin Data Center Park on Saturday, May 2, 2026, he revealed that a 405-hectare land has been identified in Tanjung Enbang, Kuching, for the implementation of this high-impact project.
The park will be named the "Kuching AI Data Park" and will be equipped with dedicated electricity and water facilities to support data center operations, while also developing AI system connection nodes to progressively form a future AI network.
He said the project will be implemented through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with the first phase covering an area of 120 hectares.
He added that the plan will also align with the broader large-scale development projects in Tanjung Enbang, including the construction of a new airport, a new port, and the expansion of low-carbon industrial activities.
During the visit, Abang Johari received briefings from Kuok Meng Wei (Founder and CEO) and Kuan Zhan Peng (COO and Executive Director), and toured the related facilities.
The delegation included State Secretary Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, State Financial Secretary Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, Sarawak Economic Planning Unit (EPU) Director Awang Mohd Fadillah Awang Redzuan, and Sarawak Climate Change and Energy Transition Unit (SACED) Director Dr Angelia Liew San Chuin.
