(Kuching, 27th) Young dancers from Sarawak’s Tyng Dance Academy (TDA) clinched one gold and one silver at the “2025 Pacific Open Dance Championship” held in Taiwan from September 20 to 21, bringing pride to both Sarawak and Malaysia.
Despite being among the youngest contestants, Jovanna Goh Yi Xian successfully won the gold medal, while Ariella Tang Chen Xin took home the silver. Both participated in the Chinese Taipei DanceSport Federation (CTDSF) Junior C Group (11 years old and below) category.
In addition, Jovanna Goh Yi Xian also placed fourth in the Junior I Solo A Group category and ranked ninth in the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) Open Junior Girls Solo event; Ariella Tang Chen Xin ranked tenth in the Junior I Solo A Group.
Tyng Dance Academy founder Chan Tyng Tyng praised the two young talents for their discipline and maturity, especially as the competition coincided with Typhoon Ragasa, forcing the team to evacuate early to Taipei for safety.
“Our students demonstrated not only skill, but also courage and maturity. They were proud to represent Sarawak, embodying both victory and responsibility,” she said in a statement today.
This achievement adds further international honors for TDA, which had just won 23 medals at the Asian Open Dance Championship held in Kuala Lumpur a few weeks ago.
Achieving outstanding results in two international competitions in just September, TDA is now actively preparing for a series of important events in Sarawak next month, including the ASEAN DanceSport Camp (October 1-2), Borneo Open International Dance Championship (BOIDC 2025, October 3-5), ASEAN Elite Masterclass (October 6-7), and the “Dance for Love” Charity Concert (October 7).
“October will be the proudest moment for Sarawak, as our local champions welcome the world in Kuching,” added Chan Tyng Tyng.
Tyng Dance Academy (TDA) holds international accreditation from the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD, UK) and Australia’s ComDance. It is a member of the Malaysia DanceSport Federation (MYDF), and serves as the organizer for both the Borneo Open International Dance Championship and the “Dance for Love” Charity Concert. These two events have become among the most influential cultural activities in East Malaysia.
