Drought Intensifies Water Shortage Crisis, Tehran to Implement Nighttime Water Rationing

(Iran, 9th) Iranian Energy Minister Ali Akbari stated that due to climatic drought and aging water supply facilities, Iran is facing water shortages, and the capital Tehran will implement nighttime water rationing measures.

According to Xinhua News Agency, Iran’s Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) quoted Ali Akbari on Saturday (November 8) as saying that some areas of Tehran may experience water outages at night. He advised residents to install water storage tanks and booster pumps to maintain water supply during the rationing periods.

Ali Akbari also mentioned that as some water pipelines were damaged during the conflict with Israel in June of this year, the government is currently lowering the network water pressure to control leakage.

So far, Tehran's water supply remains normal, but in recent times, public concerns over water and power outages have been increasing.

According to Iran's "Future" news website, on Thursday (6th), Iranian President Pezeshkian said at a meeting in Kurdistan Province in the west that if there is still no rainfall in Tehran next month, the government will implement water supply rationing.
