26-year-old Bangladeshi model and actress Ridhika Ridhi (Lidika Lidi, real name Lina Akhter) was recently found dead in her Dhaka home. Police have initially launched an investigation under suspected suicide. However, it is suspected that she was on a video call with her boyfriend Hasibur Rahman around the time of the incident, and her family has since accused the boyfriend of abetting suicide, resulting in his arrest. The latest reports indicate that the court has rejected the boyfriend's bail application.
According to various foreign media reports, on the morning of the 15th of this month around 6 a.m., police received a report and went to Ridhi's rented residence, finding her hanging from a ceiling fan. Her body was immediately sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy. According to her family, Ridhi lived alone at the scene of the incident.
A subsequent police investigation revealed that Ridhi was suspected to be on a video call with her boyfriend Rahman before and during the incident. Although the scene initially appeared to be a suicide, investigators are continuing to clarify what happened before her death and whether the boyfriend was involved.
Ridhi's mother, Moni Begum, subsequently filed a lawsuit on suspicion of abetment to suicide, naming Hasibur as the defendant. Police also arrested the boyfriend at Ridhi's residence on the day of the incident. Hasibur later applied for bail through his lawyer, but the Dhaka court rejected the application after a hearing.
The police stated that the exact cause of Ridhi's death awaits autopsy results, and the liability regarding the case awaits further investigation.
