(Brunei, 27th) Porsche Center (Porsche Brunei), one of the ace representatives under Brunei's Porsche distributor QAF Prestige Sdn Bhd, has set another electric vehicle lap record at São Paulo's Interlagos Circuit with the Taycan Turbo GT. This marks Porsche's fourth attempt at setting lap records with its track-designed electric sports car across four continents, including previous records at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the Shanghai International Circuit, and the Laguna Seca WeatherTech Raceway in California.
Since May 2024, the Taycan Turbo GT has taken over the role from the Taycan Turbo S as the Formula E safety car, demonstrating its racing prowess in this capacity. Each Formula E race features two Taycan Turbo GT safety cars, with one equipped with the Weissach Package and the other without. They are fitted with safety equipment and high-tech communication systems, allowing them to alternate between serving as the primary and backup cars.
Porsche has completed its top-tier range of all-electric sports sedans with the Taycan Turbo GT and the Taycan Turbo GT Weissach Package. The rear axle is equipped with a more powerful and efficient pulse inverter, using silicon carbide as the semiconductor material. Both vehicles boast a peak power output exceeding 1,100PS. With the press of a button, the attack mode can increase power by 120kW for up to 10 seconds. This system has been optimized for track use, similar to Porsche's 99X car used in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. A countdown timer in the instrument cluster displays the acceleration, with an animated ring dynamically displayed on the dashboard.
Porsche adopts intelligent lightweight construction measures with the Taycan Turbo GT, reducing the weight by 75 kilograms compared to the Taycan Turbo S. Numerous carbon fiber components contribute to the weight reduction. The Taycan Turbo GT equipped with the Weissach Package is designed specifically for the racetrack by removing the rear seats, achieving a higher power-to-weight ratio.
Both models come standard with Porsche Active Ride suspension, tuned specifically for the GT. During dynamic driving situations, this suspension setup ensures almost perfect contact with the road due to the balanced distribution of wheel loads.
