Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Baghaei stated that a US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz could lead to the breakdown of the ceasefire agreement between Iran and the US.
He told RIA Novosti that a US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz would be a provocative act and could lead to the collapse of the ceasefire agreement. The Iranian armed forces are prepared to take necessary action.
Cannot Confirm Whether Iran-US Ceasefire Will Be Extended
Additionally, at a press conference held in Tehran on the 15th, Baghaei said that speculation about an extension of the ceasefire between Iran and the US could not yet be confirmed and that it is necessary to observe whether the US side demonstrates genuine sincerity in its stated diplomatic positions.
When asked about the possibility of extending the Iran-US ceasefire and whether any issues in the negotiations had seen relative progress, he said the US position has changed many times with conflicting statements, making it difficult to ensure they would fulfill any consensus even if one was reached. Therefore, dialogue between Iran and the US is taking place under highly complex circumstances.
Speaking on the progress of the negotiations, Baghaei stated that the relevant issues are holistic and all topics need to be advanced as a package. Currently, dialogue continues through Pakistan as the intermediary.
