【Thai-Cambodian Conflict】Thai-Cambodian Crossfire Spills Over to Neighboring Country: 10 Shells Land on Laotian Soil

Published at Jul 26, 2025 04:55 pm
As Cambodia and Thailand exchanged fire on their border, the Special Operations Forces of Champasak Province, Laos, released a statement saying that during the clashes between Thai and Cambodian troops from the 24th to the 25th, ten shells landed on Laotian territory. It remains unclear which side fired them.

The shells caused damage to several outposts and civilian homes, and the Laotian authorities have urged the public to remain highly vigilant.

According to Thailand’s “Matichon” and other Thai media, Royal Thai Army spokesman Major General Suwari said the shells did not come from the Thai side. He accused Cambodia of its usual tactics, aiming to "maliciously mislead" the international community and blame Thailand for the war.

Laos Detains 10 Cambodian Armed Personnel

In addition, the Laotian military confirmed that not only did shells from the Thai-Cambodian battlefield land within its territory recently, but it also arrested ten armed Cambodians who had illegally crossed the Thai-Lao border.

The Champasak Military Command confirmed on the 26th that Laotian border forces recently had a fierce gunfight with a group of Cambodian armed men who tried to infiltrate near the border adjacent to Thailand’s Ubon Ratchathani Province, resulting in three deaths and one injury, and eventually arresting ten Cambodian armed personnel, as well as seizing rifles, grenades, and other weapons.

Suwari claimed that over the past two days, the Cambodian military repeatedly used long-range weapons, deliberately attacking multiple non-military targets including historical sites. He emphasized: “If it wasn't intentional, the shells could not have strayed this far.” The Thai military considers Cambodia’s actions as an “unethical way of warfare” and demanded an immediate halt.
