Kuomintang opposition party chairperson Cheng Li-wen said in an interview with internet celebrity "館長" (The Captain) that Chinese Communist Party General Secretary Xi Jinping treats Taiwan as family. "They can't wait to treat us well, how could they possibly want to attack you?"
According to a summary of Taiwanese media reports, after meeting Xi Jinping in Beijing last week, Cheng Li-wen said during a live interview with The Captain on the evening of the 16th that preparations for the presidential election will begin in 2027, and this is a choice between war and peace. The Kuomintang wants to prove to the world that neither side of the strait wants war, both want a peaceful and stable relationship, and she also wants to prove “this is not just my wishful thinking,” which is why she went to meet Xi Jinping.
Cheng Li-wen said that everyone wants to see Xi Jinping’s attitude, and he really did show a lot of unscripted, heartfelt moments, with many things he wanted to say. “It felt like he genuinely wants to treat us as one family.” Unfortunately, there have been many regrets, many rifts and misunderstandings in the past.
Cheng Li-wen said: "He (Xi Jinping) especially emphasized that we are all one family, that you can’t even deny your ancestors. We have common ancestors and a common ethnicity. What deep hatred and rift must exist to make things like this? ... The mainland’s development has already become a source of confidence for Taiwanese people. It will not become a threat to Taiwanese, but rather an opportunity."
Cheng Li-wen also believes that the two sides of the strait are one family. “They can’t wait to treat us well, how could they possibly want to attack you?” She pointed out that the mainland sincerely does not want war and hopes for peace, unlike the DPP, which manufactures hatred and confrontation. Therefore, when she reached out her hand, they wished they could grasp it, letting her feel their warmth and sincerity.
Cheng Li-wen said: “I think General Secretary Xi is someone who especially values national sentiment. He really emphasizes this aspect. He thinks that when Taiwanese compatriots also cherish this ethnic sentiment, we are spiritually connected and can talk about anything.”
Cheng Li-wen said: "China’s so-called use of force is aimed at Taiwan independence. Cross-strait peace is about adhering to the ‘1992 Consensus’ and opposing Taiwan independence."
Cheng Li-wen’s remarks sparked discussion after being reposted on PTT. Netizens lashed out, saying, “So who are those missiles aimed at? Are the military drills meant to protect Taiwan?” “If it’s so good, why did she come back? Just move there permanently! The entire party can go back to China and be Chinese!” “No wonder she says PLA planes circling Taiwan are to protect Taiwan,” “Didn’t you hear they won’t give up the Five Unifications?” “Then why not establish diplomatic ties directly with the Republic of China?” “Are the military drills just for ghosts to see?” “Are they really that good to you? Who forced the KMT to flee to Taiwan?”
