An influencer is being summoned for questioning by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for allegedly spreading false content related to the royalty.
The commission stated in a press release today that preliminary investigations revealed this influencer is involved in the dissemination of false content, linking the royal family with unsubstantiated allegations, and disclosing personal information without permission with the intent to harm, offend, harass, threaten, or disturb others.
“This action could spark public outrage, defamation, pose a threat to the safety of related individuals, and violates the Communications and Personal Data Protection Act.”
MCMC emphasized that they will conduct investigations based on the law, without regard to the individual’s status or influence, in a professional and fair manner for all reports.
As such, they remind the public that spreading content related to religion, race, and royalty (3R issues), threats, harassment, or infringement of personal privacy, is considered a serious crime and can be prosecuted under existing laws.
