Madam Xie Xiuzhao Laid to Rest; Rao Family Donates to 14 Schools and Associations

(Kuala Belait, 28th) - Renowned Bruneian businessmen Mr. Rao Meiliang and Mr. Rao Meijing's mother—Madam Xie Xiuzhao—sadly passed away and was laid to rest today in a solemn and dignified funeral at the family residence. The ritual was conducted under the custom of a 'joyous funeral', with descendants dressed in red, following traditional customs to bid the matriarch a final farewell. The venue was filled with wreaths, with friends and people from all walks of life paying their respects; the family declined condolence money as an expression of their mourning. The scene was grand and solemn.
Madam Xie Xiuzhao peacefully passed away at Kuala Belait Hospital on the 25th of this month at the age of 92, after a long and blessed life and having touched many with her kindness, earning great respect from all sectors of society. After news of her passing spread, school and community leaders as well as business associates came to express their condolences, creating a moving atmosphere.
The funeral ceremony was held today at the Rao residence in Kuala Belait, followed by the procession and burial at the original site of the Chinese Charity Cemetery on Tukuleng Hill.
Upholding the tradition of public charity even in mourning, the Rao family donated a sum of charitable funds to various schools and associations, including Kuala Belait Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Brunei Hakka Association, Brunei Taipu Clan Association, Brunei Mizong Qigong Association, Brunei Alumni Association of Taiwan, Mashi Chinese Longevity Association, Kuala Belait Chung Hwa Middle School, Seria Chung Ching Middle School, Brunei Chung Hwa Middle School, Tutong Chung Hwa School, Kiudang Chung Hwa School, Sungai Liang Zhong Liang School, Temburong Pui Yuk School, and Nawie Chung Hwa School, in order to carry on Madam Xie’s legacy of benevolence and charity; her generous spirit commands respect.
