Senior Hamas official Hamad gave a live interview to Qatar’s Al Jazeera on the 17th. This was his first public appearance after experiencing an Israeli airstrike in the Qatari capital Doha on the 9th.
Hamad said that the airstrike occurred “less than an hour after we began studying the Gaza ceasefire proposal.”
The Hamas leadership was discussing the U.S. proposal that had been passed on by Qatar at the time. Because they evacuated quickly, they survived.
He said: “Within less than a minute, missiles kept falling, about 12 of them, without pause.”
He pointed out that everyone present was “absolutely certain that this was an attack carried out by Israel.”
Sources close to Hamas revealed to the media that there were 6 Hamas leaders present at the time of the incident, including Hamad himself, chief negotiator Haya, former political bureau leader Meshaal, West Bank chief Jabarin, and political bureau member Banaim.
Earlier, Hamas stated that the airstrike killed Haya's son, Haya's chief of staff, three bodyguards, and a member of the Qatari security forces. The Israeli attempt to assassinate senior Hamas members “did not succeed.”
