A highly experienced British female skydiver recently died after falling to the ground. She did not open her parachute and hit the ground directly. After an investigation, prosecutors confirmed that she deliberately chose not to deploy her parachute, ruling her death a suicide rather than an accident.
According to The Guardian, the deceased was 32-year-old Jade Marrell, who had over 500 skydiving jumps. The incident took place on April 27 this year, and prosecutors announced their findings this Thursday (the 21st).
Reports state that Marrell fell from a height of 15,500 feet and landed on her back in a field, suffering fatal blunt force trauma.
Investigation revealed that Marrell did not open her main parachute that day and had also disabled the automatic activation device. Examinations showed that both the parachute and the automatic device were functioning properly, indicating Marrell's actions were intentional.
Additionally, Marrell would usually bring an action camera to record her skydiving, but on the day of the incident, she did not bring the camera.
● Suspected Emotional Distress After Relationship
Prosecutors stated that the day before the incident, Marrell had just broken up with her boyfriend. The two had met through skydiving and were both passionate about the sport.
Prosecutors also discovered that Marrell had left instructions on her phone’s locked screen on how to unlock it. After unlocking, they found a message to her family in which she apologized and expressed gratitude for their ongoing support, as well as information regarding her personal finances.
Prosecutors concluded that Marrell had died by suicide. Marrell’s family immediately issued a statement expressing their gratitude to the investigators and the skydiving community for their support during this time.
The family expressed their hope that Marrell’s death would prompt greater public attention to issues of mental health and psychological disorders.
