Koo Hye-sun Unhappy About Being Exploited 5 Years After Divorce, Pens Lengthy Post Criticizing Ex-husband Ahn Jae-hyun as 'Despicable'

Korean star Ahn Jae-hyun is a regular cast member on Lee Min-jung’s show 'Courtesy Exchange: Lee Min-jung.' Recently, the program mentioned that "being alone is very lonely," to which Lee Min-jung responded, "I hope you find a good person," blessing him to move on from the shadow of divorce and find new love. His ex-wife Koo Hye-sun, dissatisfied with constantly being exploited, posted an 813-character message on Instagram today, stating, "I believe that repeatedly stamping the words '5 years after divorce' in news headlines and labeling people is not proper media ethics." She admitted feeling hurt twice, and called on the production team, "I sincerely hope variety shows can also have some conscience."

Koo Hye-sun mentioned her unpleasant parting with her ex-husband, "During the process of divorce with my former spouse, we had confrontations and opposing arguments. If the final agreement was reached by neither party pursuing the truth, even if it wasn't a sincere reconciliation, it could be considered a tacit agreement, a kind of ethical understanding between people. Divorce itself is a process where each person is hurt and insists on their own views—it is a very selfish and difficult process."

Regarding being repeatedly exploited on the program, Koo Hye-sun sincerely expressed, "Although my divorce process with my former spouse was very unpleasant, continuously or indirectly hinting at me, a fellow industry person, through comments that are often somewhere between seriousness and jokes—these kinds of statements are extremely despicable. In addition, those who produce all sorts of sensational gossip shows, by making suggestive comments or pretending to comfort, are causing a second wound to me, the former spouse. I hope everyone recognizes that this is a significant harm."

Ahn Jae-hyun and Koo Hye-sun married in 2016, but their marriage lasted just three years before falling apart. In 2019, they had an acrimonious breakup and reached a divorce agreement, officially ending their marriage the following year. Ahn Jae-hyun later resumed his entertainment activities, becoming active on YouTube and variety shows, while Koo Hye-sun stepped into roles as a director and painter, showcasing her diverse talents. She returned to campus as a student, and is currently pursuing a master’s in engineering at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) Institute of Science News. She invented a “foldable hair roller” and even obtained a patent. In July, she revealed that her product is about to hit the market and mentioned founding a venture investment company. She has been living a fulfilling life after the divorce.
