Chinese esports club AG.AL has won the 2026 Esports World Club (EWC) Club Championship held in Paris. French President Macron presented the award on site. The EWC is regarded as the world's largest esports event.
According to comprehensive reports from AFP, IT Home, and National Business Daily, AG.AL from Chengdu outperformed two-time champions Team Falcons from Saudi Arabia, becoming the first Chinese esports club to win the overall club championship since the EWC's inception. Macron presented the trophy to the winners onsite.
The previous two editions of the EWC were both held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, but heightened tensions in the Middle East have severely affected event security and largely hindered travel for participants across the global esports ecosystem. In the end, the EWC, originally scheduled to be held in Riyadh from July 6 to August 23, decided to relocate.
The EWC features 24 official events, with over 200 clubs and more than 2,000 professional players from over 100 countries and regions competing together. The total prize pool exceeds $75 million (95.17 million SGD). The championship is decided based on each club's cumulative points across events; clubs earn points for finishing in the top eight in any event, but only those who win at least one event are eligible to compete for the overall championship.
This is also the first time the EWC has been held outside of Saudi Arabia since its founding there in 2024.
