(Kuching, Jan 13) Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari pointed out that statements about Sarawak capitalizing on Malaysia's political crisis since 2014 to gain enormous revenues are narrow-minded expressions of jealousy.
He stated that these remarks reflect some people's envy of Sarawak's current achievements, especially because Sarawak can propose the largest budget in history, amounting to 15.8 billion Ringgit, in 2024.
"If Sarawak is so progressive, please don't be 'jealous'. Such remarks only reflect some people's envious mentality."
He believes these statements need to be re-evaluated because they often contain jealousy and malice, which are universal human traits.
"When someone performs well, there are always those who try to suppress them. This mentality should not exist because if Sarawak prospers, the whole of Malaysia will also prosper."
Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari spoke about the current political crisis in Malaysia during the 8th Anniversary City Hall Meeting of the Sarawak Premier for 2025 last night.
He emphasized always placing political stability as a priority to ensure that Malaysia has a stable government.
He pointed out that political stability is crucial, particularly in the current geopolitical climate where issues are becoming more pronounced, especially in the South China Sea, which has become an arena for global powers, and Sarawak cannot resolve this issue alone.
"The political tensions coincide with Sarawak facing the South China Sea issue, an area that is precisely the 'arena' for great powers, and Malaysia is located within this region. If Malaysia falls into chaos, what will happen? This means internal divisions could jeopardize the entire country. Thus, the nation must have a strong and stable government to defend and develop Malaysia. This is the reality."
He further revealed that thanks to good economic and resource management, Sarawak can effectively increase its income.
He stated that Sarawak's advantages, combined with its policies, place Sarawak's economy in the most advantageous position within Malaysia.
