(Singapore, 7th) — A Singapore Armed Forces tank experienced a technical malfunction and accidentally hit a roadside traffic light during a National Day Parade National Education show. The Ministry of Defence said, when queried, that nobody was injured in the incident.
According to Lianhe Zaobao, the accident occurred at around 7pm on the 5th, in the area of Bridge North Road. In videos circulating online, the tank in question collided with a roadside traffic light while turning, causing the traffic light to tilt slightly.
A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said that the Leopard 2SG main battle tank involved experienced a technical issue after taking part in the mobile column segment of the National Day celebration. When the tank hit the traffic light, it was still within a restricted area and maintained a safe distance from the public watching the parade; no one was injured in the incident.
The spokesperson said: "At the time of the incident, the Leopard 2SG main battle tank was within the speed limit of 20 kilometers per hour. The tank crew followed standard operating procedures to respond, and the tank was subsequently safely evacuated with no damage. The traffic light suffered only minor damage."
An investigation is currently underway. The Ministry of Defence and the National Day Parade 2025 Executive Committee have worked together with the Land Transport Authority to carry out necessary repairs.
