(Bangkok, 7th) The suicide drone 'Kamikaze UAV' independently developed by the Royal Thai Air Force has been successfully tested and can use high-explosive warheads to carry out precise self-destruct attacks. This marks an important milestone in the development of the Thai Air Force's drone program, signifying a key step towards full production and eventual deployment.
The Royal Thai Air Force stated on Saturday (July 5th) that the 'Kamikaze UAV' has passed rigorous testing, is equipped with a powerful warhead, and successfully destroyed designated targets under controlled conditions. The mid-range strike test yielded a margin of error of less than five meters.
The statement said that the R&D project is an initiative by Thai authorities to enhance defense capabilities through independent innovation, aiming to modernize the military and improve combat readiness with indigenous technologies, to safeguard national sovereignty and ensure national security.
The 'Kamikaze UAV' is the result of deep research and development, jointly produced by the Royal Thai Air Force Academy, Air Force Ordnance Department, and the Air Force Aerospace Technology Research and Development Center.
In the statement, the Thai Air Force emphasized: "National security cannot simply be bought with money; it must be established with our own hands."
Thai media cited a senior air force official saying: "This achievement showcases not only our technological potential but also highlights the importance of self-reliance in national defense."
Thailand has been committed to strengthening its military industry. In 2023, the Thai Aviation Technologies Company showcased the DP18A tactical drone at the Defense & Security Expo in Bangkok. This aircraft mainly carries out intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions, and can also strike enemy targets. It is expected to be put into use within a few years.
