Civil Servant Beaten, Suffers Miscarriage and 13 Broken Ribs – Abusive Husband Still at Large

(Kuala Lumpur, 27th) A 39-year-old female civil servant was brutally beaten by her husband, resulting in a miscarriage and 13 broken ribs. The suspect remains at large to this day, prompting UMNO Sungai Petani Division Chief Datuk Shahanim’s outrage. She issued a “final ultimatum” on Facebook, vowing that if the suspect was not arrested by 3pm on Monday (April 27), she would personally lead the public to the police station to lodge a mass report and fight for justice for the victim!

Kuala Muda District Police Chief Han Yan confirmed that the 43-year-old male suspect is still on the run, and police operations to apprehend him are ongoing.

According to a CT scan report and comprehensive medical record from the hospital dated April 25, the victim’s injuries are severe: 7 broken ribs on the right side, 6 on the left side, and 3 spinal fractures – totaling 13 broken ribs and 3 spinal fractures.

The victim suffered serious injuries—her head was smashed with a plastic chair and brutally beaten, resulting in severe swelling; her face and neck not only endured punches and kicks, but were viciously stomped on. Her abdomen was repeatedly kicked and battered, and her hands were covered with bruises. The perpetrator even kicked her thighs continuously while wearing leather shoes, and her entire body was marked by bloody welts from being beaten with rubber hoses and an iron curtain rod.

The victim was beaten by her husband on April 2 with hard objects including a clothes hanger, rubber hose, iron curtain rod, and broomstick, causing her 12-week-old fetus to be miscarried. Doctors confirmed that her entire body was covered with both new and old bruises, indicating long-term abuse.

On Sunday (April 27), Shahanim posted the final ultimatum on Facebook: “If the suspect is not brought to justice by 3pm today, I will personally lead the public to take action and launch a mass petition at the police station.”

At the same time, she publicly named the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development and the Ministry of Home Affairs, urging both cabinet departments to immediately intervene in this case to bring justice to the victim and to serve as a warning to others.

“This man simply treated a woman like ‘livestock.’ A man who beats his wife has received no punishment—is there any justice left?”

According to reports, the suspect is a 43-year-old local man who married the victim in a neighboring country in December last year, but their marriage has not been legally registered within the country. The suspect is allegedly involved in stealing nearly 50,000 ringgit worth of the victim’s jewelry and bank savings and was previously involved in another similar violent case in Johor.

Reportedly, the previous case carried a 10-year sentence, yet the suspect has offended again. In 2021, he reportedly beat his ex-wife into a coma and should have been behind bars in 2024, but due to a “stay of execution,” he was free while awaiting appeal. Showing no remorse, he violently assaulted his current wife during this period of “freedom.”

After netizens exposed the suspect’s identity, outrage exploded online. Many questioned: where is the authority of the law? Are we to just stand by and let this dangerous individual remain at large?
