(Selangor, 27th) His Royal Highness Sultan Sharafuddin of Selangor has granted royal approval for Selangor to continue hosting the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA), but ordered that the event be carried out in a thrifty and prudent manner.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, His Royal Highness gave his consent on April 23 after meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar and holding a discussion, agreeing for Selangor to host the Malaysian Games as scheduled from August 15 to 24.
Youth and Sports Minister Mohamad Daufi sincerely thanked His Royal Highness for his royal approval, and also thanked the Prime Minister for prioritizing the interests of the nation’s young athletes in the decision to go ahead with the 2026 Malaysian Games.
He said: “I sincerely thank His Royal Highness for his royal approval. This decision resulted from deliberations led by the Prime Minister and reflects concern for young athletes, enabling them to continue competing at the highest level.”
He added that the 2026 SUKMA is also an important platform for selecting and nurturing young athletes, preparing them to represent the country in next year’s Southeast Asian Games to be held in Malaysia.
Additionally, Mohamad Daufi has discussed this decision with Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin, who has pledged the state government’s full cooperation to ensure the smooth organization of the 2026 Selangor Malaysian Games.
On April 29, Mohamad Daufi and the Selangor State Executive Councillor for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Affairs also had an audience with the Sultan to brief His Royal Highness on the latest progress of the 2026 Malaysian Games preparation work.
Meanwhile, the special meeting of the SUKMA Supreme Committee originally scheduled for April 30 (Thursday) will feature a report from the 2026 Selangor SUKMA Secretariat on the latest progress, especially regarding the implementation of cost-saving measures to comply with His Royal Highness’s directive.
