The conflict between Cambodia and Thailand along the border continues to escalate. A mother and her two young children died instantly when a rocket attack struck a convenience store at a gas station. Just an hour before the incident, the mother had posted on Facebook, writing, “The sound of explosions is deafening, even the windows are shaking, my heart is pounding so fast.” Unexpectedly, this became her last post.

According to Thai media outlet Khaosod Online, on the morning of July 24, a BM-21 rocket from Cambodia landed in a convenience store at a gas station in Kanthararom district, Sisaket province, Thailand, killing a mother and her two young children instantly.

The deceased was a 34-year-old Thai woman named “Rung.” An hour prior to the incident, she posted on Facebook: “The sound is deafening. Even the glass is shaking. My heart, too, is trembling.” Unexpectedly, this message became the last one of her life.

According to eyewitnesses and police accounts, the victim had heard explosions from the border while at home that morning, but she still went out as usual to pick up her daughter and son from school. On the way, the three stopped by the convenience store at the gas station for some shopping. At around 10:50 a.m., the store was struck by a rocket and all three died instantly.

The local community, friends and family of the victims, and netizens have left condolence messages on her Facebook post. Many described it as “a tragic war disaster that should never have happened.”

The victim’s colleagues and friends said she was a helpful mother and a beloved neighbor, and that her sudden passing was hard to accept.

On social media, “#RIPคุณรุ่ง” has become a trending hashtag on Thailand’s X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, symbolizing the public’s grief and anger over the loss of innocent lives.
