The conflict on the Thai-Cambodia border continues to escalate. A Thai soldier who was urgently deployed to the frontlines made what would be his last call with his young son before going missing. After the soldier’s wife uploaded the recording of this call on social media, everyone was left heartbroken and many prayed for his safe return home.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, on July 24, an internet user believed to be the soldier’s wife, @ต้อมจ๋ามะละกอฟาร์ม, posted a set of words and photos on Facebook, documenting her husband’s conversation with their child before his deployment.
“Daddy might only be able to call you once today. Daddy has a lot of tasks today. Don’t cry, please don’t cry. Daddy might be home a bit later this time. When I get back, I’ll take you to get your vaccine—the appointment is overdue. This time, you’ll get your chickenpox shot. Can you hear Daddy, Poon?”
“Who’s Poon? Raise your hand! If Daddy doesn’t come back, remember not to make Mommy angry... Daddy’s driving right now, there are 30 kilometers left before I reach the temple. I’ll call you again when I get there. Don’t cry, that’s all for now, Poon, don’t be naughty.”
After this call, the line fell silent. From 10 a.m., the soldier’s wife was unable to reach her husband again.
In her post, the wife wrote:
“Thank you, my dear. Even at the last moment, you were thinking of our child and telling him not to be afraid. No matter what happens, I will take good care of our child, just as I did when I was raising him alone before. Don’t worry about me—I will persevere. You just focus on fulfilling your duty. Even though we had our regrets, please— for the country and for the people—complete your mission.”
Once published, her post immediately drew nationwide attention, with thousands of comments praying for the front-line soldier’s safe return and expressing the highest respect and support for all soldiers and their families.
This emotionally charged post comes amid a sudden escalation of the Thai-Cambodia conflict. The Cambodian side allegedly fired multiple BM-21 rockets at the Thai border, causing civilian casualties. In response, Thailand deployed additional military forces to strengthen the border defenses. Tensions are running high, with ASEAN countries closely monitoring the situation and calling for peaceful negotiations.
