Chinese actor Yang Yang has achieved great success with his new period drama 'A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality.' Each time he releases a new drama, it sparks a wave of binge-watching, but in the 2023 romance series 'Fireworks of My Heart,' he was criticized for being ‘too greasy,’ which affected his popularity. In a recent interview, he candidly admitted: 'During that period, people might not have liked me so much, so I showed up less to meet everyone.'
Yang Yang spoke with 'CCTV.com' and, when talking about how he deals with difficulties in real life, his originally fluent tone became hesitant and silent for a moment. He then smiled at someone—possibly a staff member—and said, 'It’s fine to talk about it, right? Be brave and face it, isn't it.'
He then said frankly: 'Actually, over the past two years I haven’t appeared much in front of the audience because for some characters, people then felt the effect was not that good. I also felt that people didn’t like me so much during that period, so I decided to show up less and meet everyone less, instead focusing on grounding myself and trying out other roles, trying my best to play them well.'
Yang Yang also emphasized: 'Any role encountered at any time is a precious experience, and an opportunity for everyone to help me grow.' He also thanked the public for their criticisms and said he’s focused on doing what an actor should do.
Now 33, Yang Yang has been in the industry for 18 years, and he likens his acting career to a 'wave line,' believing that life can’t always stay at its pinnacle and that going downhill to view the scenery is just as important. In order to break through himself, he turned down many variety shows and commercial performances, putting his whole heart into filming new projects like 'A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality.'
