(Kuching, Jan 13) Sri Aman Chinese Federation President and Sri aman Chinese Chamber of Commerce President Dato' Dr. Ngu Piew Seng expressed his agreement with Education Minister Fadhlina's statement that "independent schools should strive to integrate into Malaysian society" and highly praised the unity government's fair approach to the issue of independent schools.
He emphasized that independent schools, as part of the national education system, are an important reflection of Malaysia's pluralistic society, rather than an existence of opposition or competition.
Dato' Dr. Ngu Piew Seng stated in today's press release that he agrees wholeheartedly with the Education Minister's perspective. When discussing education funding issues, it is crucial to avoid falling into a "zero-sum game" mindset.
He believes that independent schools not only provide quality education for Chinese students but also play an active role in promoting social integration, particularly by cultivating multilingual talents, thereby contributing to the overall development of the country.
"I fully agree with the Minister of Education's viewpoint that fair treatment of all groups is a crucial premise for building a harmonious society. The existence and development of independent schools is a result of social diversity and a reflection of win-win prosperity, rather than an act of undermining the rights of other groups."
He stated that Minister Fadhlina's enlightened stance, which advocates unity and reconciliation, fully reflects the governing principles of the unity government. He affirmed the government's allocation of RM21.16 million to 63 Chinese independent high schools nationwide, considering it a demonstration of the government's support for Chinese education and respect for cultural diversity.
He called on the government to continue adhering to the principles of fairness and justice in future administrations, balancing the needs of all ethnic groups, especially in the distribution of educational resources, and truly implementing the "One Malaysia" concept.
Dato' Dr. Ngu Piew Seng emphasized that education is the foundation for the country's future development, and promoting the coexistence of multiple languages and cultures will make Malaysia more competitive in the international community.
"As the Education Minister has said, learning multiple languages not only does not weaken the foundation of any culture, but it can also enhance international competitiveness and social inclusiveness. Chinese, English, and Malay each have their strengths, and encouraging multilingual learning is key to future development."
He believes that independent schools play a unique and important role in the national education system, not only cultivating academic talents but also serving as an important bridge for promoting social diversity and integration.
He hopes that the unity government can be consistent in its words and actions, implement policy commitments, and continue to strive for improving the quality of national education and strengthening social unity.
