A tragic incident of severe parental negligence has occurred in the United States! A young father drove his 18-month-old son and, on a scorching day reaching 32°C, left the boy alone and locked in the car. The father went to get a haircut and then to a bar for drinks. Police stated that the toddler was locked inside the car for over three hours, during which his body temperature soared to a fatal 49°C. Despite emergency rescue efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The father has been arrested on charges of aggravated child manslaughter and severe negligence causing injury, but was released on bail of $100,000.

According to multiple foreign media reports, the 33-year-old father, Scott Gona, was driving with his 18-month-old son, Sebastian, to the Ormond Beach area in Florida, USA, on June 6 this year.

After parking, Scott left his son alone in the vehicle and went to get a haircut and then to a bar named Hanky Panky’s Lounge for drinks.

On the day of the incident, the temperature reached as high as 32°C. Scott reported that his son had stopped breathing and collapsed. When police arrived, they found Sebastian had been locked in the car for over three hours, with his body temperature rising to a deadly 49°C. Police administered immediate first aid, but Sebastian was pronounced dead at the hospital despite resuscitation attempts.

Scott was arrested at his mother’s home, and had repeatedly given false statements to the police in an attempt to cover up his negligence. He was charged with aggravated child manslaughter and severe child negligence causing injury, and taken into custody.

The police later stated that similar incidents have occurred locally before, urging parents never to leave their children alone in cars, especially on hot days, as just a few minutes can be fatal. (News source: HK01)
